Monster

In the story monster written by Walter Dean Myers explains a story about a Yong man wanting to make a name for him self but in all the wrong ways and is put on trial for that mistake. Steve Harmon is put on trial for being involved with a robbery and a murder. I believe that Steve is innocent because first of all they don't have any evidence againts him, and if he was involved, all he was suppose to do was be the look-out. Steve wasn't the person who killed the store owner Mr.Nibbet. The police don't have any evidence that would tell them who did what and who was involved in the robbery. One of the people the key-witness to testify was Moore, James kings sister who tyred to cover for him, Moore had stayed that he was at her house for that whole day that the robbery had gone down and that king had bought her a lamp that she had broken. The second person to testify was Sawicki who was one of Steve's teachers and said that he wouldn't believe that Steve would do anything bad and that he could be trusted and that he was a good kid.The thirdly person to testify was Steve himself he said that king and all the others involved were just acquaintances and not friends and that he hadn't planned on helping in the robbery. In the story monster written by Walter dean explains Steve's innocents.

Steve's innocent

In the story Monster written by Walter Dean Myers, I believe that Steve is innocent. One reason is because his name wasn't mentioned at all, in the beginning of the trial. On the stand Jose, Zinzi and Bolden never said Steve's name once through out their testimony. Secondly because Steve believes he didn't do anything wrong, he was just the look out. Osvaldo said while on the stand that Steve was going to be the look-out. Steve stated that he didn't do anything. Thirdly because they don't have any evidence against Steve. Detective Karyl said that Steve was the one who killed the owner but also had said that there wasn't any usable finger prints for evidence. Steve's innocents is proven in the story Monster by Walter Dean Myers.

Shadow of a Nation

In the article” Shadow of a Nation" by Gary Smith and Kenneth Jarecke talks about the crow and their love for basketball, Basketball is one of the biggest things on the Crow reservation, but many don’t put there talent to good use. On the reservation there’s a lot of drinking occurring and the education isn’t really good there. On the reservation many people are related to one another some way or another. Many teens get killed in car crashes because of drunk driving. Many people are saying that takes enemy is going to be among the few to succeed. One of his coaches said “He would be the one who escaped, wouldn’t he”. Basketball has taken the place of counting coups and also many of their old traditions. “Some way had to be found to count coups, it was basketball” said a member of the Crow tribe. Jonathan Takes enemy has a love for basketball and he’s one of the best players. The people of the Crow tribe want Takes enemy to wear the traditional dress but he doesn’t want to, but will. "Johnathan dreaded the stares that would be drawn to him if he wore the ritual Indian clothing but he couldn't bear to disappoint his people". Takes enemy is finding it hard to be the head of the Crow Nation and he’s faced to be in two worlds at the sometime he said, “why do I have to carry the hopes of the crows”. Takes enemy did succeed he finished collage, but not in the way his people wanted him to. Basketball is a big thing on the crow reservation but its not always enough to get them somewhere, life on the reservation is difficult explained Gary Smith and Kenneth Jarecke.

In the time i get

In the short story “In the time I get” by Chris Crutcher gives an example of not letting prejudices get in the way of being a friend and becoming the bigger person because of it.
“I wont tell I said and I knew this time I wouldn’t. It’s hard for me to lie to carter he’s my best friend but I promised”. This story is about a guy named Louie who’s girlfriend had just died last winter and is having a hard time, but what he doesn’t know is that death’s not through with him yet and in an unexpected way also. At the bar he works at, a man walks in in a very elegant way, he has never seen this man around the small town before. Louie introduced himself to the guy and finds out that he’s the boss’s nephew; he wonders why his boss Dakota hasn’t told him that Darren was coming. Darren and Louie start talking then he found out that Darren had ADS and that he was going to die, Louie took off and avoided him for a while because he didn’t deal too well with the death of his girlfriend, and because he didn’t know or really want to know how Darren got ADS. Louie talks to his dead girlfriend sometimes and he remembered that she wasn’t afraid to do anything or care what people would think, so that’s how he got motivated to talk to Darren and learn more about him and to also become his friend. Darren and Louie start hanging out more and more, Louie’s best friend notices that theres somthing up with darren, and tells him to stay clear of that Darren guy because he’s gay. Louie said I didn’t have to worry about what anyone else was thinking he was just a funny sad guy… “But I love myself for what I did say. I said yes”. (Holding Darren’s hand in hospital) In the story Chris Crutcher gives a example of one person who over came there ignorance and became the bigger person by doing so. In the end he gained a friend and lost one.

Goin Fishin

In the short story “Goin Fishin” by Chris Crutcher gives an example of forgiveness.
Lionel Serbousek lost his parents and little brother in a boating accident. Neal, Lionel’s ex best friend shows up at his door three years after the accident asking for forgiveness. Neal’s mother calls lion to ask for help and is willing to help him out. Elaine tells Lionel off and brings him to reality. After that Lionel goes looking for Neal to talk. Lionel forgives Neal once he finds him and they go fishing. Lionel and his parents were on the lake fishing in the afternoon around the same time Neal, but they didn’t know Neal had a few drinks and wasn’t paying any attention to were he was going and ran into the boat Lionel and his parents were on. Lionel was the only person who seen it coming so he jumped. Neal finds Lionel after three years and asks for forgiveness Lionel turns him down and asks “what the hell are you doing here” Neal reply’s “trying to give myself a chance”. Elaine talks to Lionel about how he treated Neal Anderson like shit and how nobody could tell him anything and how he’s lucky to have friends who “gathered around him like angels”. Lion goes off after his discussion with Elaine, to find Neal, “Lionel wants to believe that he’s doing this because he had come to his senses”. He finds Neal and they talk and he forgives him and says to Neal,” I think its time to go fishing”.
Forgiveness is reviled in the short story Goin Fishin by Chris Crutcher.
